Sunset Cellphone Policy
Sunset High School Cell Phone & Personal Technology Policy 2025-26
Aligned with Texas Law & Sunset’s Commitment to Focused Learning
Purpose
To foster a safe, focused, and distraction-free learning environment, Sunset High School will implement the Texas No Cell Phone/Technology Law using Yondr pouches for all students. This policy applies to cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, tablets, gaming devices, and similar personal technology.
Policy Details

Distribution: Yondr pouches will be signed for and distributed the first day of school for all students who want them to secure their personal devices while at school. It is optional if the students want to be issued a Yondr pouch, but we will adhere to the no cellphone/technology policy while at school from 8:00-5:00pm.

Any students who have personal devices not in Yondr pouch will be subjected to the violation consequences below.
Yondr Pouch System

Before Entry:
Students must unlock their Yondr pouches from the unlock pedestal stand outside of school in the intake line.

Upon Arrival:
Students must place their cell phones, smart watches, and earbuds into a Yondr pouch before entering the metal detectors.

During School Hours:
Pouches remain sealed and in the student’s possession but must not be opened or until dismissal. It must be out of sight and in the backpacks.

End of Day:
Students may unlock their pouches at designated stations after the final bell at the unlock pedestal stations outside of school.
Progressive Violation Consequences

First Offense - Device is confiscated, parents/guardians may pick it up with no fee assessed.

Second Offense - Device is confiscated, parents/guardians may pick it up and pay an administrative fee of $5.

Third Offense - Device is confiscated, parents/guardians may pick it up and pay an administrative fee of $10.

Additional Offenses - Device is confiscated, parents/guardians may pick it up and pay an administrative fee of $15.

Any device not claimed by September 1 following the end of the school year will be disposed of according to FNCE(LEGAL).

Any lost of damaged Yondr pouches will be $20 to replace.
Referrals
-
First Offense - For schools with Reset, students should be assigned one day of Reset. Other schools will determine consequences, such as parent conference, detention, withdrawal of privileges, etc.

Second Offense - For schools with Reset, students should be assigned two days of Reset. Other schools will determine consequences, such as parent conference, detention, withdrawal of privileges, etc.

Third Offense - For schools with Reset, students should be assigned three days of Reset. Other schools will determine consequences, such as parent conference, detention, withdrawal of privileges, etc.

Additional Offenses - Students should be sent to DAEP.
Monitoring & Accountability

Teacher Responsibility:
Teachers must maintain a log of all violations using the Cell Phone Tracker System and enforce the policy consistently in their classrooms.

Dean of Students:
The Dean will monitor the Cell Phone Tracker System, enforce consequences, and keep parents/guardians informed of repeat violations.

Consistent Enforcement:
All staff will receive training at the start of the year to ensure fairness and consistency.
